Why is soft skills development essential for all BINUS University students?

Academic excellence alone is not enough. Every BINUS University graduate is expected to possess strong and well-developed soft skills to be fully prepared for real-world challenges and their chosen career paths. This is in line with the directives of the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, which emphasizes the importance of soft skills for students to remain competitive in an increasingly demanding environment. Soft skills not only support career achievement but also shape mindset, strengthen mental resilience, and foster extensive networking to enhance learning and future career success.

What activities can students join to develop their soft skills?

There are plenty of opportunities available throughout your academic journey. Students can participate in various development programs organized by Study Programs, Centers, and even external organizations. These programs include seminars, talk shows, training sessions, workshops, competitions, sharing sessions, and more. In addition, there are annual events such as the Rector Cup, BINUS Youth Festival, Studium Generale, and others.

Moreover, students can take on different roles both on and off-campus that provide valuable experiences to sharpen their soft skills. These roles include:

  • Activist or Student Organization Committee Member

  • Freshmen Leader

  • Freshmen Partner

  • First Year Program Leader

  • Mentor

  • Volunteer

  • Laboratory Assistant

  • Associate Trainer

  • Peer Partner

  • Peer Counselor

  • BINUS Square Activist
    …and many others.

Detailed information about these roles can be accessed through the Student Roles menu in BINUS Support.
