When visiting the library, our main goal is usually to find study materials or reference sources, whether in the form of books, journals, or other resources related to coursework or ongoing research. To support these needs, the library provides OPAC as a tool for information retrieval.

What is OPAC?

OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) is an online catalog system used by libraries to help users easily search, access, and borrow library materials. At the BINUS Library and Knowledge Center (LKC), OPAC terminals are available in several service areas:

  • 2 OPAC devices at the Circulation Service area

  • 1 OPAC device at the Reference Service area

Through OPAC, users can:

  • Search for library materials quickly

  • Check detailed information about collections (title, author, year of publication, edition, and availability)

  • Borrow and renew library items

  • Access the service from multiple devices such as computers, laptops, and mobile phones

Steps to Search Collections via OPAC

Follow these steps to search for library materials through OPAC:

  1. Access the Library Website
    Visit https://newlibrary.binus.ac.id/.

  2. Perform a Search
In the search bar, type one of the following:

    • Book title

    • Author’s name

    • ISBN

    • Keyword
Example: Type Artificial Intelligence. The system will display all related collections, including e-books, printed textbooks, open-source e-books, articles, or other relevant resources.

  3. Check the Collection Details
Make sure the displayed information matches your needs, such as title, author, edition, and publication year.

  4. Borrow the Item

    • For printed books, locate the book on the shelf according to the call number and borrow it at the Circulation Service desk.

    • For e-books, borrowing can be done directly through the OPAC system.

In addition to basic information, OPAC also displays the availability status of each item (available, checked out, or location on the shelf). For example, the book Financial Planning might be available at LKC Anggrek Campus and LKC Bekasi, allowing users to choose the most convenient location.

Additional OPAC Features

  • Renewal of Borrowed Items: Users can extend the borrowing period directly through the system.

  • Loan History: Displays a list of previously borrowed items.

  • Access to Other Collections: OPAC also provides information on journals, magazines, newspapers, and other materials.

With OPAC, the process of searching and borrowing library materials becomes more efficient, time-saving, and provides users with a better service experience.
