Freedom of expression is an essential part of academic freedom upheld at BINUS. Every BINUSIAN has the right to express ideas, criticisms, and suggestions regarding both academic and non-academic issues.

However, this freedom is not without limits. When expressing opinions, students are required to uphold norms, ethics, and respect the rights and dignity of others. This principle is in line with Article 28J of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, which emphasizes the obligation to respect the human rights of others and the limitation of individual freedoms to ensure the rights of all.

As an institution that reflects the diversity of Indonesia, BINUS strongly upholds the values of tolerance, mutual respect, and ethical communication. Therefore, expressing opinions in an orderly and respectful manner is key to creating a healthy, conducive, and civilized campus environment.

Benefits of Expressing Opinions in an Orderly Manner

1. Creating a Healthy Discussion Climate

Opinions delivered ethically and in accordance with established rules are more likely to be accepted and considered by others. Discussions can take place rationally, focusing on the substance of the issue rather than emotional reactions or personal conflicts.

2. Fostering Mutual Respect

Ethical expression reflects respect for differences in opinions, backgrounds, and perspectives. This is essential in building trust and maintaining harmonious relationships among the academic community.

3. Preventing Conflict and Division

Harsh, offensive, or attacking language can easily trigger conflict. In contrast, respectful and well-mannered communication helps reduce tension and prevent division within the campus environment.

4. Building Ethical Academic Character

A university is not only a place for acquiring knowledge but also a space for character development. Practicing polite, wise, and responsible communication helps shape students into mature, ethical, and integrity-driven academics.

BINUS encourages all BINUSIAN to actively express their opinions as part of academic culture. However, this freedom must always be balanced with responsibility, ethics, and mutual respect.

By maintaining proper conduct in expressing opinions, students contribute to creating an inclusive, safe, and supportive campus environment for the entire academic community.
