Violence is considered one of the five major misconducts in higher education, as stated by the Ministry of Education. This serious issue still frequently occurs in university environments, including sexual violence, bullying, and abuse of power.
Such incidents are often hidden from public view due to a culture of silence, social taboos, and fear of stigma experienced by victims.
As an educational institution, BINUS is committed to creating a safe, comfortable, and violence-free campus for all BINUSIAN.
BINUS’s Commitment to Preventing Violence
1. Establishing SPIRIT as BINUS Core Values
BINUS upholds the values of SPIRIT, which stands for:
a. Striving for Excellence
b. Perseverance
c. Integrity
d. Respect
e. Innovation
f. Teamwork
Through the value of Respect, BINUS students are expected to treat one another with mutual respect. This attitude encourages openness, appreciation of diversity, and resistance to provocation or discriminatory behavior.
2. Implementing the Student Activity Code of Conduct
In addition to promoting SPIRIT values, BINUS has implemented the Student Activity Code of Conduct (PTTAK) and the Student Code of Ethics.
These regulations emphasize mutual respect and strictly prohibit all forms of violence on campus.
Any student involved in violent acts will face firm consequences in accordance with university regulations. These sanctions aim to guide students toward becoming more responsible and ethical individuals.
3. Establishing the Violence Prevention and Response Task Force (BINUS Listen)
In accordance with Regulation of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology No. 55 on the Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education Institutions (PPKPT), BINUS has established a Violence Prevention and Response Task Force, known as BINUS Listen.
This task force focuses on:
-
Preventive efforts through anti-violence campaigns
-
Awareness and educational programs
-
Promoting a safe campus environment
-
Handling reported cases professionally and confidentially
The Role of Students in Creating a Safe Campus
Creating a safe and comfortable campus is not only the responsibility of the University, but also requires active participation from all BINUSIAN.
One important action students can take is reporting any acts of violence witnessed on campus through:
